Could your skin use a little smoothing?

Dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a sugar molecule that naturally occurs in the connective tissue in our bodies. Dermal fillers help to achieve a more youthful appearance by replacing the hyaluronic acid that has broken down in your body over time.

As we age, the amount of fat in our faces gradually diminishes. Although this may sound like a good thing for some of us, this fat is usually what makes us look more youthful, because it smooths out facial contours.

The first place we usually experience loss is around the eyes, followed by the middle of the upper cheek below the eye, and the cheekbones. Fat from the areas on the sides of the mouth and nasolabial lines go next, followed by the forehead. Last, but not least, are the sides of the face.

Does it hurt?

Dermal filler treatments are generally not painful, although the amount of discomfort you experience may vary depending on the area. Treatments around the lip are typically the most uncomfortable but this can still be well tolerated through topical anaesthetic cream.

To provide further relief and alleviate as much pain as possible, dermal fillers contain a pre-mixed local anaesthetic.

What is the recovery time?

Because hyaluronic acid is already present in our bodies, it is very rare to have an allergic reaction to dermal fillers. However, you will still probably experience swelling, slight bruising, and mild redness after treatment.

How long will my results last?

Treatments can last up to one year. The filler is naturally metabolized by the body so touch up appointments are recommended to maintain long-lasting results.
