Platet-Rich-Fibrin - Here’s Everything You Need to Know About PRF

The usage of blood concentrates for skincare is becoming increasingly popular, as women and men are looking to achieve a young, fresh look, with the use of their own cells.

Platelet-Rich-Fibrin is an advanced skin treatment that is designed to target areas on your skin, specifically the face, that are showing signs of aging. This can include under-eye hollows, deflated cheeks and more. This treatment comes from the first generation treatment, known as Platelet Rich Plasma, PRP.

In this blog post, we focus on everything you need to know about PRF, from Sabrina Medical Aesthetics, a professional, experienced nurse and injector serving Vaughan and the Greater Toronto Area.

What is Platet-Rich-Fibrin?

Like the PRP treatment we offer, this treatment includes platelets, fibrin, and white blood cells, which benefits wound healing, collagen production, and improved elasticity. However, PRF includes a much higher concentration of white blood cells, fibrin, and a small number of stem cells, which are in our bloodstream.

This procedure consists of using the individual’s blood to help repair the skin texture, which will increase hyaluronic acid and collagen production, improve hair growth, wound repairs, and skin regrowth from severe burns. It is known that a platelet contains growth factors that help wounds heal, along with stimulating stem cells to build collagen and elastin in the skin, which makes it more effective to work on your own skin. Hence, making the PRF treatment 100% natural!

How does the treatment occur?

The best part about this treatment is that it is an all-natural, non-surgical procedure, as the PRF is extracted from your own blood to stimulate the process of natural tissue healing and growth.

Sabrina will start the treatment by extracting vials of blood prior to the procedure, one for the plasma (PRP) and one for the thrombin. It is then placed in a centrifuge to separate the PRF from other components in the blood. Furthermore, this will also allow the PRP to effortlessly separate from the rest of the blood cells, which then is injected into your face for rejuvenation, healing, and production of collagen. Finally, the PRF is harvested in a syringe and ready to go; the process is quite efficient.

How painful is this procedure and what is the recovery process?

Although the PRF treatment is a 100% natural treatment, like many skincare facial treatments, the PRF treatment can cause mild discomfort. However, topical numbing cream is applied prior to ease the pain. Furthermore, research shows that because the PRF is made from the client’s own blood, it decreases the risk of allergic reactions.

What is the recovery time?

We ensure to provide our clients with effective results, while encouraging natural beauty. The advantages of the PRF treatment are the benefits of using the client’s blood that is injected back into the skin. Furthermore, because this treatment consists of no added chemicals and solutions, it decreases the chances of allergic reactions and allows the skin to heal faster on its own. However, your skin may appear red and sensitive for 24 hours following the treatment.

How long will the results last?

The PRF treatment is known to be an effective method of treatment that focuses on volume of the aging skin. We recommend to our clients that this procedure should be completed in a series of treatments completed every 4 to 6 weeks. The results of this treatment consists of short- and long-term results. Furthermore, the results will start to show about 2 weeks after the initial treatment, and will generally last almost 24 months, as the volume of the skin will slowly start to dissolve. Some examples of long-term effects to the PRF treatment consists of face tightening and improvement on skin quality.

Conclusion

The PRF treatment is an improved skincare treatment that many people would fit as a candidate for, as there are many benefits to this treatment. At our Vaughan medical spa, we ensure that our clients receive the most appropriate treatment for their skin condition, depending on the client’s concerns. If you are interested in improving your aging skin for a smoother, natural look, this treatment is the solution for you!
